Biography Esther Bächlin, Piano (1965)

Deutsche Version

Born in 1965 in Zurich, Switzerland, Esther Baechlin began her musical education at the age of 6, playing classical music and singing in choirs for many years.

In 1988, she began studying jazz piano and vocals at the Swiss jazz school in St. Gallen with master pianists Art Lande and Uli Scherer, and singer Malcolm Green. Inspired by these great pianists, additional workshops, and lessons with Richie Beirach, Dave Liebman, Jane Ira Bloom, and Paul McCandless, Esther developed a dynamic and colorful piano playing ability. Her own music is rich in harmony and rhythmical complexity.

Since 1989, Esther has been an active part of the Swiss jazz scene and has played with many well-known musicians. She loves writing for choir and performing impressionist "chamber-jazz” - always in search of new colors and sound scapes. In Nov. 2006, she received an award from the Lucerne County for her project “Inspiring Music - In Between”

As part of a special project, she went on tour with the Vienna Art Orchestra (CD: FE + MALES) where she performed at music festivals in Switzerland, Germany, France, and Austria with artists such as Marilyn Mazur, Wolfgang Puschnig, Ingrid Jensen, Hélène LaBarriere, and Heiri Känzig.
